A new age bride doesn't leave all her preparations to the "elders". One of the most important decision for the bride to be is, what look she wants to achieve for her wedding day/functions.
A bride is introduced to a number of makeup artist and hairdressers in the months before her D Day. It's like she asked the Universe for a choice and the Universe worked doubly hard to send her options of wonderful accomplished artists who can acheive so much.
So this blog is to help those beautiful brides who don't know what to look for in an artist.
1. Cost is always a deiciding factor. Most of the makeup and hair artists can acheive what you want, however is it affordable? Remember though you get what you pay for. Ask the artist upfront what the cost is? If there is a flat rate? or does the artist tailor make packages for you? Along with makeup, do they offer other services like hairstyling and saree draping/pinning etc. Cause this will decrease your overall cost. Sometimes the MUA will ask you to meet them before giving you the rate, this is for 2 reasons, one, they want you to see their work and how "worth it" it is. Second, its a precautionary measure because the Makeup Industry is a very competitive market.
2. Does the MUA give trials? If no, which is the case most of the time, are there pictures of their work and do they have any refrences of brides they have worked on? If Yes! Hallehlua!! You have found the one artist who does give consultations and trials. This is the holy grail for most brides. At this point you would want to know if this is a paid trial or a free service the MUA is providing? I have another post on what to expect and do for a succesful trial.
3. Another great way to check if this MUA is for you? How eager is this MUA to understand the look you want to acheive? Do they ask good questions? Ask for reference pictures and spend time analyzing them? Have they sent you reference pictures of looks that will match you, your function, you outfit and sensibiltiies? AND if the answer is yes and combined with a good and thorough trial, you have the perfect person to achieve you wedding look.
